The Garden of Gethsemane

6 Women are married to the same man. They sing, they play, they hold onto their faith that one day the garden they spent so many hours tending will grow, but the youngest of the flock is done waiting. Starkeys’ new play is a religious allegory looking at the contradictions between faith and organised religion and how women's lives are shaped by religious trauma.

Performed 22nd-23rd Feb 2024!
The George Harrison Workshop Theatre
Liverpool

A rural house somewhere in the middle of a barren desert. Everything is run down and old-fashioned looking. The stage is set like the porch of a house. There is a piano and each woman has somewhere they sit. The ‘garden’ is out towards the audience - it isn’t really a garden, nothing is growing.
